Andrew has written extensively on English military history. In 1992 he formed the Towton Battlefield Society and wrote a guide to the battlefield published in association with The Battlefields Trust. His special interest is the medieval period and the Wars of the Roses and he has written books, monographs and articles in various journals on the battle of Towton and related medieval subjects.
In 1996 Andrew was actively involved with Bradford University’s Towton Grave Research Project and as a result of the media interest in the mass grave he was consulted and appeared in ‘Secrets of the Dead’ (Channel 4). He wrote a chapter on the history of the battle of Towton in ‘Blood Red Roses’, a book recording the archaeological finds of the grave, and was commissioned by Robert Hardy (actor and medievalist) to produce three illustrations for his book The Great Warbow (2006). He also lectures on the battles of the Wars of the Roses.
Andrew’s books to date include The Battle of Towton (1994, 1996, 2000), The Medieval Soldier in the Wars of the Roses (1998), Hotspur: Henry Percy Medieval Rebel (2003), The First Battle of St Albans (2006). He lives in Yorkshire, England, and is currently working on a novel set in the Wars of the Roses.
